Containers by Eco Hotel: The eco friendly hotel in the South

I’m becoming quite picky when it comes to choosing a place for staycations. Let’s just say that Dubai has influenced me so much when it comes to standards. Everything there is just so fancy that I got used to it. The restaurants, the resorts, the malls. Our area (Barsha Heights) is surrounded by tall flats and buildings and the streets are spotless clean. When you are able to experience a systematic way of living, you can’t help but look for similar experience in your own country.

So when it comes to choosing a place for vacations or staycations, you have to consider so many things. The location, amenities, how the staff treat you and ‘how “at home” you are in their place. The amount of money you spend isn’t’ a joke and you’ve worked hard enough to earn it so it’s just about right that you deserve something rewarding for yourself. Last weekend I was invited by the Ecohotel management for the 1 year Anniversary of Containers by Ecohotel. First time I’ve been to this hotel but I heard so much about it from some of my blogger friends who already stayed here.

I shared my 2 cents on Facebook about me being so tired of the typical fancy hotels in Manila. I wanted to discover hotels with a touch of uniqueness to it. Something built with creativity and a taste for aesthetic trends.

Containers By Eco Hotel Philippines isn’t just about impressing you with their beautiful 3D paintings and minimalist industrial interiors. They are also a strong advocate of sustainability and ecological balance.

Every nook and cranny of this hotel is all about art and creativity.

This hotel has a total of 75 paintings on their walls created by several artists from around Philippines who are also environmentalists and strong advocates of sustainability. If you’ll notice, even the concrete floors mixed with broken pieces of recycled glass from bottles are made with a touch of art in it.

The name speaks for itself. This hotel is made by intermodal containers. Those huge metal boxes you see on trucks along highways. It is originally designed for shipping purposes to carry goods But since we are living in a world driven by innovation, containers are being used for a variety of purpose. We see container homes, food trucks, and now even hotels are joining in the bandwagon when it comes to industrial themed designs.

Most of the furnitures and designs inside the hotel are made from upcycled materials like wood, old soda cans, and other reusable stuff.

I should’ve thought of something creative like maybe sat on top of the coffee or something.

A rat hole. This little painting is barely noticeable and good thing I happen to linger in this area.

I met the owners of the hotel (the same owners of Dormitels Ph). Both passionate for traveling, they decided to put up a seaman’s hostel in Manila for starters then after a few years turned into a board and lodge hotel for travelers, students and anyone who wish to book for cheap accommodations.

On the other hand, the Containers by Ecohotel is more for the adventurous type who want to try something different. Imagine camping inside a hotel? I’m sure you haven’t heard of such a thing yet. They call this “Glamping” meaning glamorous camping, You know how it is when you go with the real camping at the forest right? This usually means mosquito bites, scary freaky sounds you’ll possibly hear from outside your tent and taking a bath and peeing means no privacy. The camping “site” is located at Containers roof deck. There’s also a small in-house restaurant that serves different dishes and alcoholic drinks from local to imported. You get to feel the millennial vibe I tell you.

How cool is this wall?

People nowadays are attracted to places that would look good on their photos. Let’s admit that everything revolves around social media and pictures are a BIG deal because for some, this will define their travel experience.

Looks like a simple drawing on the wall but I find it so pretty.

This area can be used for meetings or small gatherings and events. The room is simple but very functional.

Moving on to the rooms for guests, you would see how the theme is so Filipino and with a touch of something ecofriendly to it. They only have 2 types of rooms, The Queen Room and the Family Suite. Very spacious, simple and comfortable.

Some of the designs in this hotel reminds me of First Exit in Dubai The designs inside the bathrooms like the shut off valve or hose hydrant (it’s pretty difficult to describe but I’m talking about the one on the left side used as a toilet dispenser) are similar and even the containers and it’s interiors are somewhat the same.

One of the highlights of this hotel is the refillable eco friendly products they sell. Shampoos, conditioners and even bath gels and body wash at a very reasonable price are all made of organic ingredients. Soaps come in different variants like oatmeal, avocado, banana and other fruity and veggy stuff. Since it is all about sustainability, you better bring used bottles of shampoo if you plan to buy here.

Eco Hotel Announces Chinampa Taqueria Grand Opening in Tagaytay

Eco Hotel is excited to announce the opening of its third restaurant venture, Chinampa Taqueria. The green hotel chain has recently been trying its luck in the food industry, with this Mexican restaurant as its latest brainchild. The grand opening is set on October 31st, 2018 at 6 PM in Cabins by Eco Hotel, Tagaytay.

Chinampa is the first passion project by Chef Elgin Alonso upon returning to the Philippines. Elgin was previously the Sous Chef at the Ritz Carlton Dubai, and came back home to Manila earlier this year. He wanted to introduce authentic Mexican cuisine to the Filipino palette, and after surveying the Tagaytay food scene discovered that this was exactly what was missing.

The roof deck at Cabins by Eco Hotel provides a quaint and unique location for this taqueria, with its unobstructed view of Taal lake and an open-air set up to enjoy the chilly Tagaytay weather. It’s a great way to enjoy classic Mexican dishes, such as soft tacos and burritos. Appetizers like Nachos and Chili Dynamite match perfectly with a cold beer.

Food is prepared fresh daily by Chef Elgin, as he also caters to the in-house guests. Chinampa offers Huevos Rancheros, a Mexican breakfast staple, for that extra authentic kick. The taqueria is open for lunch and dinner as well, Tuesdays to Sundays.

Eco Hotel would like to invite everyone to join us in opening Chinampa this Halloween! We will have live acoustic performances by popular local bands Lenses, Hilera and Autotelic. For only PHP 150 entrance fee, guests will get a free beer and unlimited nachos while supplies last.

For details and reservations, please visit http://www.ecohotels.com.ph or contact Millie Manahan, at 0927 673 7674..

Follow Chinampa on Facebook and Instagram @chinampaph. We hope to see you there! Andale, andale!
