Soft fine white sand and the bluest waters you’ll find in Malaysia is secretly hidden somewhere in Kuala Terengganu. Going there by bus would take you 7 hours travel time but the long ride will be worth it. The Island of Lang Tengah is protected by its locals. The beautiful corals under the sea are just breathtaking and worth capturing with an underwater camera.
I had an amazing time travelling solo to this island that I’ll be documenting everything here in my blog. It just so happens that October is my birthday month so when Mr Chong Tze Seng invited me to do a review of his resort, I immediately reserved October just in time celebrating my birthday.
I arrived at KLIA around 11 am. Since I planned to go to Terengganu by bus and I know it would take me 7 or 8 hours travel. I decided to kill time first and explore KL Sentral for the day. Going to KL Sentral by bus only cost 12.50 RM.
Raining on my way to KL Sentral
NU Sentral Mall
What better way to kill time than go to a nearest book shop and read a book! I found this one called MPH bookstore.
The founder of Tesla
From KL Sentral, its easier to go to the Bandar Tasik Selatan (BTS) bus station via KTM Komuter train and purchase a ticket which would only take around 15 minutes or so and cost only 2.40 RM.
Arriving at BTS bus station
Purchasing my KT bus for only 43 RM. They have different schedules but its advisable to travel during the evening since travel time takes about 7 to 8 hours journey (including stopovers). So if you love road trips and at the same time travelling on a budget, this is the best option.
Arriving at Kuala Terengganu and at the Merang Jetty
My trip calculation was accurate. I arrived there around 6 am and the driver of Summer Bay Resort Mr Chua picked me up and took me for breakfast at the nearest food place there serving Chinese Malaysian food. On our way to the jetty, he shared some interesting history about Kuala Terengganu and what its famous of. One of the interesting things to see in this place is the floating mosque built in stone with interesting Arabic inscriptions that dated back to the 1300’s. The locals here were a combination of Muslims and Chinese with culture mixing of Hinduism and Buddhism.
From the Jetty going to the island, it only takes a 40-minute boat ride.
Boat ride to Summer Bay is quite dizzying because of the waves.
ARRIVING AT SUMMER BAY LANG TENGAH ISLAND
We were warmly greeted by the Summer Bay Resort staff and offered us fresh juice and warm towels.
These girls look so cute and pretty!
The waiting lounge
Our schedule of activities for the 4 days/3 nights package.
I spent the day just walking along the shore and afterwards took my nap. I was tired from the trip and only had a few hours shut-eye before I left Manila. Mr John Seng gave me a pool view room and I felt so special and well taken cared of by the staff. By the way, the resort doesn’t have any wifi so I strongly suggest purchasing a Cellcom sim. They sell it for 25 RM with data already.
I made a tour of the resort and decided to take some photos.
Where you can get your snorkeling stuff to rent
Whoever thought of this is just brilliantly smart. Very inviting.
The area where you can get your diving equipment for rent
I met Bobo, a Malaysian travel blogger who also got invited to feature the resort and the island.
Met Mr Chong Tze Seng, mamager of the resort.
I spent most of my days on the island swimming but weren’t able to try diving. I’m just too chicken and kind of scared because sadly, I don’t know how to swim. Also, it was raining on the island for 2 days but good thing it stopped during afternoons. So instead of diving, one of the staff brought me to their rooms and other amenities that Summer Bay offers for its guests. The rooms are all so neat with vintage yet elegant furnishings.
One of the nicest room is the Alamanda room with balcony behind the curtains and an amazing pool view.
If you feel like having some pamper time, they also have a spa where you can get a nice massage.
You may also enjoy listening to live bands and drinks at their bar.
The pool at night
The package is inclusive of breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet. They serve Chinese food at the Restaurant De Lang but if you prefer another cuisine, you may dine at Okeechobee restaurant which offers Japanese cuisine.
To be honest, this is where I stayed more often. Because all the food was superb!!!! I find the kitchen staff all friendly and they said one of their waiters is a Filipino although I never met him.
Stuffing myself with Chinese food.
Strolling along Lang Tengah island with Bobo.
I was quite disappointed I wasn’t able to see humongous turtles on the island. John told me that most of these creatures are residing on their neighbouring island Redang. However, since it’s been raining continuously and it wouldn’t let up, the island hopping got postponed. Despite the situation, I still enjoyed my stay because the island is so beautiful that it is indeed like the Maldives.
I adore those colorful Chinese fishing boats.
Taking photos of myself with the help of my selfie stick and timer! Aint bad seriously!
The peaceful Terengganu.
One of the friendliest and safest places I’ve been to. The best travel experience is how you can learn so much from a place. I didn’t get the chance to tour the whole KT because of the short time I had.
The people of Terengganu are all friendly and they speak English too.
The bus station at Kuala Terengganu
Grabbed some light snacks on my way back to KL 😂
HOW I GOT HERE ON A BUDGET:
1. From KL airport, I looked for the bus ticket counters and purchase a bus ticket going to KL Central. This only cost 12.50 RM. (I preferred killing time at KL Sentral first since I decided to catch the last trip).
2. From KL Sentral, I rode the KTM Komuter train and purchase a ticket going to Bandar Tasik Selatan (bus terminal) which would only take around 15 minutes or so and cost only 2:40 RM.
3. From BTS bus terminal, I purchased a bus ticket going to Kuala Terengganu. As mentioned its advisable to travel during the evening since travel time takes about 7 to 8 hours journey (including stopovers) ticket only costs 43 RM.
4. Since I’ll be staying at the Lang Tengah Island, the driver of Summer Bay Lang Tengah picked me up around 6 am in the morning and dropped me off at the Merang Jetty. From the Jetty going to the island, it only takes a 40-minute boat ride. 🙂
If you prefer a faster travel, from KLIA you may board a plane going to KT which would only take you about an hour and a half.
